Treatment of chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout
This treatment is for chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout. It aims to lower serum uric acid levels to prevent the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints. This helps reduce the frequency and severity of gout attacks and decreases the risk of complications such as kidney function impairment. Typically, dietary adjustments and medication are used in conjunction, utilizing medications that inhibit uric acid production or promote its excretion. Consistent treatment can significantly improve the frequency and intensity of gout symptoms. Therefore, chronic hyperuricemia management is vital in the overall management of gout.
1. Adults Administer 40 mg or 80 mg once daily, regardless of meals. Because this medicine acts very rapidly, recheck the serum uric acid level after 2 weeks. The treatment goal is to reduce and maintain the serum uric acid level below 6 mg/dL(357 μmol/L). 2. Patients with renal impairment No dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate renal impairment. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have not been adequately evaluated in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance below 30mL/min). 3. Patients with hepatic impairment No special dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment. Only limited information is available for patients with moderate hepatic impairment, and the efficacy and safety of this medicine have not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class C).
This medication may increase the risk of cardiovascular death in patients with cardiovascular diseases; therefore, it should be used cautiously in patients with a history of cardiovascular conditions. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to this medication or those currently taking the medications mercaptopurine or azathioprine should not use it. Patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should also avoid use of this medication. Patients with liver diseases or thyroid dysfunction, as well as those with heart conditions, should undergo regular liver function tests and monitoring while using this medication. This medication may temporarily worsen gout attacks; therefore, it should not be initiated until gout attacks are resolved and should be used with other medications for prevention of attacks initially. If symptoms such as liver function abnormalities, weakness, or jaundice appear during treatment, consult a physician immediately and discontinue the medication if necessary. This medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. This drug may interact with certain medications; therefore, notify your physician or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. It is advisable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding to avoid this medication, and its use is not recommended in children. In cases of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, it is important to receive symptomatic treatment.
