Prevention of asthma and relief of allergic rhinitis symptoms
This medication helps to prevent asthma attacks and manage the condition in a stable manner over a long duration. It also alleviates symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, thereby improving the quality of life of patients. It is effective in the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis.
Adults and adolescents aged 15 and older should take 10 mg of montelukast once daily by oral administration. The medication should be taken once daily, and asthma patients should take it in the evening. Patients with allergic rhinitis should determine the timing of administration based on their condition. The 10 mg orally disintegrating film should be placed on the tongue to dissolve without water once daily.
Children aged 6 to 14 years should take 5 mg of montelukast once daily by chewing or placing the tablet on the tongue to disintegrate without water. The 5 mg orally disintegrating film should be placed on the tongue to dissolve once daily.
This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this drug or any of its components. Additionally, due to the presence of lactose, it should not be taken by individuals with genetic conditions such as galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. This medication is not effective for immediate relief of acute asthma attacks; separate emergency treatment is required for acute symptoms. If asthma or allergic rhinitis symptoms worsen while taking this medication, it is essential to consult a physician. Various side effects such as headache, fever, abdominal pain, cough, skin rash may occur during treatment, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor. Particularly, changes in neuropsychiatric symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts should be closely monitored. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not take these medications concurrently during the course of this treatment. If pregnant or breastfeeding, it is crucial to discuss with a physician before taking this medication and it should be used cautiously only when necessary. Children and elderly patients may take this drug, but dosage adjustments or special precautions may be necessary based on age. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, symptomatic treatment and observation are required. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container. During treatment, do not abruptly reduce or discontinue other asthma medications without a physician's direction, and this medication should not be used alone for exercise-induced bronchospasm. It is advisable to always carry an emergency inhaler during the treatment.
