Reduction of risks of myocardial infarction and stroke and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and vascular surgery in adults with multiple risk factors for cardiovascular diseases or patients with type 2 diabetes. It also reduces the incidence of myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina in patients with existing coronary heart disease, while lowering the hospitalization risk due to congestive heart failure. For patients with hyperlipidemia, it improves the blood lipid profile by decreasing total cholesterol, bad LDL cholesterol, apo-B protein, and triglycerides, and increasing good HDL cholesterol. It can enhance therapeutic effects when combined with a diet even in special cases such as familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used to promote cardiovascular health and improve dyslipidemia.
The recommended initial dose for the treatment of hyperlipidemia is 10 mg once daily. For patients needing further LDL cholesterol reduction, it may be started at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosing range should be adjusted within 10–80 mg once daily, personalized according to treatment goals and patient response. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, dosing should be 10–80 mg once daily.
