Precautions

This medicine should not be used by patients with an allergic reaction to this medication or its components. Additionally, this medicine contains lactose, so patients with a genetic disorder that inhibits lactose digestion should not take it. Patients with liver disease or a history of liver disease should be cautious, as this medication may worsen liver condition. If allergic symptoms such as rash, hives, swelling of the face or extremities, or severe itching occur while taking this medication, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Occasionally, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, dizziness, insomnia, nightmares, numbness, and a feeling of mental cloudiness may occur, so caution is required. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, heartburn, dry mouth, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and oral inflammation. Abnormal liver function may occur, so liver function tests and monitoring are necessary, and patients with hepatitis or liver damage may experience worsening symptoms. Rarely, renal function abnormalities may present as proteinuria, so it is advisable to periodically check renal condition. This medication may affect the urinary system, leading to symptoms such as frequent urination, hematuria, and urinary retention, requiring immediate consultation with a doctor if abnormalities occur. Signs of increased heart rate may occasionally occur, thus attention to cardiac symptoms is necessary. Respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath, difficulty coughing, and nasal congestion may rarely occur. Blood tests may show decreased platelets or increased white blood cells, so immediate consultation with healthcare providers is necessary if any abnormal symptoms arise. In women, symptoms such as gynecomastia, breast enlargement, menstrual irregularities, breast pain, and taste disturbances may rarely appear. This medication is not a fast-acting medication for relieving asthma attacks, so this point should be adequately explained to patients with asthma. Patients undergoing long-term steroid therapy should gradually reduce steroid dosage while taking this medication. This medicine can cause drowsiness, thus caution is required while driving or operating machinery. If no effects are observed, do not take this for an extended period, and seasonal allergy patients are advised to start the medication before symptoms begin and continue until the symptoms resolve. This medication appears to not enhance the sedative effect if taken with other sleep aids, antihistamines, or alcohol, but caution is advised as there have been limited experiences with concomitant use. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should use this medication only if the benefits are deemed to outweigh the risks, and breastfeeding women should preferably avoid using it or discontinue breastfeeding. Safety in children, especially infants and young children, has not been adequately established, thus caution is warranted for use. Elderly individuals often have decreased liver and kidney functions, so this medication may not be properly excreted, necessitating careful monitoring of adverse reactions and consideration of dosage adjustments or discontinuation if needed. In cases of overdose, cardiac rhythm abnormalities may occur, so immediate hospital visit for appropriate treatment such as gastric lavage or urinary induction is necessary. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should be kept in its original container as transferring it may alter its quality.
