Treatment of chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout
This medication is used for the treatment of chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout. Hyperuricemia can cause gout attacks and joint damage due to the formation of urate crystals from abnormally high serum uric acid levels. Therefore, this medication effectively lowers uric acid levels to alleviate symptoms and prevent complications. When taken appropriately considering the patient's health condition, it can be beneficial for managing gout. It plays a crucial role in improving gout symptoms over the long term.
1. Adults This drug is administered once daily at a dose of 40mg or 80mg, with or without food. Since this drug acts very rapidly, recheck serum uric acid levels after 2 weeks. The treatment goal is to lower and maintain serum uric acid levels below 6 mg/dL(357 μmol/L). 2. Patients with renal impairment No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate renal impairment. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been adequately evaluated in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance below 30mL/min). 3. Patients with hepatic impairment No special dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment. Only limited information is available for patients with moderate hepatic impairment, and the efficacy and safety of this drug have not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child Pugh class C).
This medication may increase the risk of cardiovascular mortality when administered to patients with cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, patients with a history of heart or cerebrovascular disorders should use it cautiously. Patients with an allergy to any of the ingredients in this medication or who are taking specific drugs such as mercaptopurine and azathioprine should not use it. Patients with certain genetic metabolic disorders like lactose intolerance should also refrain from taking this medication. Patients with liver diseases or thyroid abnormalities should regularly check liver and thyroid function while taking this medication, and patients with heart diseases or heart failure should be cautious as well. Patients taking the specific medication theophylline should exercise caution when combining it with this medication, and organ transplant recipients should also use this medication cautiously. This medication should not be initiated during an acute gout attack, and initial administration may temporarily worsen gout attacks, so appropriate preventive measures are necessary. If symptoms of liver dysfunction (such as fatigue, loss of appetite, jaundice, etc.) appear, the medication should be discontinued, and tests should be carried out, adjusting medication based on liver function test results is necessary. This medication can cause side effects like drowsiness and dizziness, so care should be taken when driving or operating dangerous machinery. Severe allergic reactions or hypersensitivity reactions can rarely occur, and if these symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately. This medication may interact with various other drugs, so patients must inform healthcare providers of any other medications they are taking. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid this medication, and it is not recommended for children under 18 years of age due to a lack of experience in pediatric use. In the case of overdose, no specific antidote exists, and treatment based on symptoms is required. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and no special storage conditions are required.
