Treatment of chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout
This medication is used to treat chronic hyperuricemia occurring in patients with gout. Hyperuricemia is a condition where uric acid accumulates excessively in the blood, potentially causing joint pain and inflammation. Therefore, this medication helps to control uric acid levels to alleviate symptoms of gout and prevent recurrence. It will effectively contribute to pain management and symptom improvement for patients.
1. Adults This drug is administered once daily at a dose of 40mg or 80mg, with or without food. Since this drug acts very rapidly, recheck serum uric acid levels after 2 weeks. The treatment goal is to lower and maintain serum uric acid levels below 6 mg/dL(357 μmol/L). 2. Patients with renal impairment No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate renal impairment. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been adequately evaluated in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance below 30mL/min). 3. Patients with hepatic impairment No special dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment. Only limited information is available for patients with moderate hepatic impairment, and the efficacy and safety of this drug have not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child Pugh class C).
This medication may increase the risk of cardiovascular death when administered to patients with cardiovascular disease; thus, patients with a history of cardiovascular disease should avoid this medication if alternative treatments are available. This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to the active ingredient or excipients, those taking certain medications (mercaptopurine, azathioprine), and patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. Patients with liver disease, thyroid dysfunction, heart disease, those taking certain medications (theophylline), organ transplant recipients, patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, and those with sharply increased uric acid production should use this medication cautiously, with regular liver function tests and monitoring of their condition. While taking this medication, side effects such as abnormal liver function, diarrhea, headache, rash, fatigue, and dizziness may occur; if any unusual symptoms arise, patients should consult healthcare professionals. In the case of acute gout attacks, this medication should not be initiated, and during the initial treatment phase, gout attacks may temporarily worsen, requiring preventive treatments such as anti-inflammatories or colchicine. This medication may affect liver function, so regular liver function tests should be performed before and during use, and if symptoms of liver function decline appear, the medication must be discontinued immediately. Care should be taken when engaging in hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery due to possible drowsiness or dizziness from this medication. It is advisable for women who are pregnant or nursing not to take this medication, and it should not be used in individuals under 18 years of age due to a lack of experience in this population. In the case of an overdose of this medication, there is no specific antidote; therefore, treatment and supportive care should be based on symptoms that arise. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and there are no specific storage conditions required. This medication may interact with other drugs; particularly, it should not be used in conjunction with mercaptopurine and azathioprine, and caution is advised when taking theophylline. If cardiovascular symptoms or adverse reactions occur, patients should immediately inform healthcare personnel and receive appropriate measures.
