Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with certain conditions. For instance, it is contraindicated in patients with urinary retention symptoms who have difficulty urinating, severe gastrointestinal issues, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma, allergies to this drug or its components, patients undergoing hemodialysis, or those with severe hepatic or renal impairment. Furthermore, it must be used cautiously in patients with severe bladder outlet obstruction or gastrointestinal obstructive diseases, autonomic neuropathy, and dosages should be limited in cases of moderate to severe renal or hepatic impairment. Close attention is also required when taken with strong specific enzyme inhibitors. Common side effects of this medication may include dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, urinary retention, and dry eyes, especially at higher doses where the incidence may increase. Rarely, severe allergic reactions such as angioedema or anaphylaxis can occur, and if any of these symptoms arise, immediate discontinuation and appropriate treatment should be sought. This drug may require caution while driving or operating machinery due to potential drowsiness or blurred vision. Co-administration with other anticholinergic drugs may enhance effects or increase side effects, thus caution is advised during such combinations. This medication is metabolized by certain enzymes in the liver; therefore, when taken concurrently with strong enzyme inhibitors, drug concentration may increase, necessitating dosage adjustments. Safety has not been established for use in pregnant or lactating women, so it is recommended to avoid use during these periods. The safety and efficacy for children have not been established, thus it should not be administered to pediatric patients. In case of overdose, inducing vomiting should be avoided, and activated charcoal treatment may be necessary; central nervous system symptoms or cardiac issues may manifest, requiring appropriate treatment. There have been no reports of genotoxicity or tumor formation risks associated with long-term use of this medication, and it is known to have no impact on reproductive capacity or early embryonic development.
