This medication is used to treat various infections caused by several bacteria. For instance, it is effective against respiratory infections such as community-acquired pneumonia, and upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, otitis externa, chronic cholesteatomatous otitis media, and chronic otitis media. It is also used for the treatment of bacterial prostatitis, acute uncomplicated cystitis, and acute pyelonephritis among urinary tract infections. Additionally, it is effective for gastrointestinal infections, biliary infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and bone and joint infections. It also treats gynecological infections, peritonitis, nabothian cysts, and chalazia. However, in some diseases, its use is recommended only when no other treatment options are available. This medicine helps improve various bacterial infections.

How to take

Adult dose

Typically, for adult ciprofloxacin, 250–500 mg is administered orally twice a day between meals. In the case of severe complicated infections, the dosage may be increased to 750 mg twice a day. Precautions

Mild side effects

Fungal superinfection, eosinophilia, (thrombotic) phlebitis, leukopenia, anemia, neutropenia, leukocytosis, thrombocytopenia, thrombocytosis, erythrocytopenia, hemoglobin decrease, hematocrit decrease, granulocytopenia, leukolysis, hemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, increased INR, syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH), allergic reactions, allergic edema/angioedema
