Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. First, individuals allergic to this drug or its components should avoid it. Patients with liver cirrhosis and cystathionine synthase deficiency should not take this medication, as its metabolites can affect methionine metabolism. Additionally, patients with peptic ulcers and severe renal or hepatic impairment should also refrain from using this medication. This medication should be used cautiously in some patients. Patients with mild to moderate liver impairment should ensure that the daily dosage does not exceed 300 mg. Diabetic patients or those following a low-calorie diet should be careful when taking the syrup form. This drug contains the dye Yellow No. 5, so those with allergies or hypersensitivity to this ingredient should use it cautiously. In case of overdose, symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, and flushing may occur, so it is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage. Neurological and respiratory symptoms such as headache, cold symptoms, and difficulty in breathing have also been reported. Gastrointestinal side effects may include altered taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Skin reactions such as hives, erythema, and eczema may also develop. Post-marketing surveillance in Korea has reported various adverse reactions such as fatigue, dyspepsia, palpitations, and facial edema, though a direct correlation with this medication has not been established. When used in conjunction with expectorants, this medication may cause difficulty in sputum expulsion due to cough relief, thereby increasing the risk of bronchial infection, and caution is particularly advised. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid using this medication as its safety has not been fully confirmed. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and caution should be taken as transferring it to other containers may lead to degradation of quality.
