This medication is used to treat seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and skin pruritus.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Adults and children aged 6 years and older should take 10 mg of cetirizine hydrochloride orally once daily before bedtime. For patients sensitive to side effects, 5 mg may be taken in the morning and at night. Adjustments should be made according to age and symptoms. Precautions

This medication should not be taken by patients with an allergy to any of its components, severely impaired kidney function, pregnant or nursing women, and children under 6 years of age. While taking this medication, it is advisable not to take certain drugs, such as theophylline or ritonavir, as this medication may affect the concentration of other drugs in the body. Breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment, and the use of alcohol should be avoided as it may exacerbate the side effects of this medication. Patients with kidney or liver function problems, elderly individuals, patients with epilepsy, and those at risk of seizures must consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medication. This medication is excreted through the kidneys, so its concentration may increase in patients with renal impairment. This medication may worsen symptoms of difficulty urinating, thus caution is required in patients with urinary retention. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty in urination may appear, requiring immediate consultation with medical personnel. There is no antidote for overdose of this medication, so symptomatic treatment is necessary. While taking this medication, side effects such as drowsiness, headache, dyspepsia, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to a healthcare provider. It is advisable to stop taking this medication prior to allergy tests, and caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery, especially with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. Food may slightly slow the absorption of this medication, but it does not significantly affect its efficacy. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original container.
