Mucolytic and expectorant treatment for acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medication effectively liquefies the mucus in patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases, facilitating expectoration. It helps patients breathe more comfortably and alleviates discomfort caused by respiratory inflammation. It reduces respiratory mucus and promotes its expulsion, leading to easier breathing. As a result of these actions, it improves cough symptoms and is used to support respiratory health.
Adults: Administer 300 mg of erdosteine orally 2~3 times daily. When administered for acute respiratory conditions, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this medication or its ingredients should avoid taking it. Those with liver cirrhosis or cystathionine synthase deficiency should refrain from use, as its metabolites may disrupt methionine metabolism in the body. Patients with peptic ulcers should also avoid using this medication. Those with severely impaired kidney function, specifically with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min, and patients with severe liver dysfunction should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with mild to moderate liver function impairment should use this medication with caution and ensure the daily dosage does not exceed 300 mg. This medication contains a dye called Tartrazine, and those with allergies or hypersensitivity to this dye should also use it carefully. In case of overdose, symptoms may include sweating, dizziness, and flushing. Neurological and respiratory system adverse reactions such as headaches, cold symptoms, and breathing difficulties have been reported. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include taste disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Skin symptoms such as hives, erythema, and eczema may also occur. Additionally, various side effects including fatigue, dyspepsia, palpitations, facial or generalized swelling, itching, weakness, drowsiness, and rashes have been reported. Caution should be exercised when taking this medication with expectorants, as it may decrease coughing while making it difficult to expel phlegm from the bronchi, increasing the risk of bronchial infection and bronchospasm. Pregnant or nursing women are advised not to take this medication as its safety has not been sufficiently established.
