View approved original text

This medication is effective against major bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (including beta-lactamase producing strains), and Moraxella catarrhalis (including beta-lactamase producing strains). It is primarily used for the treatment of recurrent or persistent acute otitis media and acute sinusitis in children under 2 years of age who have a history of antibiotic use for acute otitis media or acute sinusitis within the past 3 months, or in children attending daycare. Thus, it helps effectively treat these infectious diseases in young patients and improve symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had a hypersensitivity reaction to specific ingredients or beta-lactam antibiotics. Caution should be exercised for patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia due to a high risk of rash. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice caused by this medication or penicillin class drugs should not be administered due to the risk of recurrence. Patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medication due to the lactose content. Patients with impaired liver function should be careful as this medication may worsen liver function. Moderate or severe renal impairment patients should adjust dosing intervals since the drug may remain in the body for a long time, increasing the risk of side effects. Patients with allergies or symptoms such as asthma or hives should be cautious as hypersensitivity reactions may occur with this medication. Patients unable to eat properly or in poor nutritional status, and elderly patients should be careful as symptoms of vitamin K deficiency may appear. Patients with gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea should be cautious as drug absorption may be impaired. This medication generally has few side effects, but contact dermatitis, diarrhea, vomiting, and rashes may occur and should be discontinued in severe cases. Gastrointestinal adverse reactions may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting, and if gastrointestinal disturbances are severe, consulting a physician is advised. Liver dysfunction may occur, especially in elderly patients or with prolonged use, necessitating regular liver function tests. Severe skin reactions or allergic reactions can rarely occur; if a rash or itching arises, the physician should be notified immediately. Blood-related abnormalities such as leukopenia and thrombocytopenia may occur, so regular blood tests may be necessary. Central nervous system symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, dizziness, and rarely seizures may occur; any abnormal symptoms should be reported promptly. Careful monitoring is required for patients with kidney disease as it may affect kidney function. During antibiotic treatments, infections from other bacteria or fungi may arise; if symptoms worsen, consulting a physician is necessary. This medication should only be used for the necessary duration to prevent resistance to infecting bacteria, and it should not be arbitrarily discontinued. Shake well before use, and store in a refrigerator after preparation, and consume all within 7 days. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid using this medication during the first 3 months, and nursing mothers should be cautious as adverse reactions may occur in the infant. Children under 3 months should not be used as safety has not been established. Inform the physician or pharmacist of any other medications being taken to avoid potential interactions. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and kidney damage may occur, requiring immediate contact with healthcare personnel for appropriate treatment. This medication should only be used for bacterial infections and is ineffective against viral infections like the common cold, so it should only be taken when necessary.
