Mucolysis and improved expectoration in acute and chronic respiratory disorders
This medication works by liquefying mucus in the airways, making it easier to expel phlegm in acute and chronic respiratory diseases. Therefore, it is effective in alleviating uncomfortable symptoms when coughs produce thick phlegm. By promoting mucus liquefaction and expectoration, it helps facilitate smoother breathing. It is primarily used to improve symptoms in respiratory diseases such as acute or chronic bronchitis and asthma.
Adults: Administer 300 mg of erdosteine orally per dose 2~3 times daily. When used for acute respiratory disorders, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals who have an allergic reaction to this drug or any of its components should not use it. Patients with liver cirrhosis or those with cystathionine synthase deficiency should not take this medication, as its metabolites may be harmful to the body. Additionally, patients with peptic ulcers, severe renal impairment, or severe liver dysfunction should also refrain from using this drug. As this medication contains lactose, patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance, galactose intolerance, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Patients with mild to moderate liver dysfunction should use this medication cautiously and should ensure that the daily dose does not exceed 300 mg. Patients with diabetes or those on a low-calorie diet should be particularly careful when using syrup formulations. In cases of overdose, symptoms may include sweating, dizziness, flushing of the face, headaches, cold symptoms, difficulty breathing, altered taste sensation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Skin reactions such as hives, red spots, and eczema may also occur, and any abnormal symptoms should be promptly discussed with a healthcare professional. Taking this medication alongside cough suppressants may hinder the expulsion of phlegm from the bronchi, increasing the risk of bronchial infections and leading to potential issues with bronchial contraction and relaxation; thus, caution is advised when used concurrently. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding are advised against using this medication due to the uncertainty regarding its safety. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may pose risks of accidents and quality degradation, so caution is advised.
