This medication plays a crucial role in vascular health. It is used to improve the symptoms caused by atherosclerosis in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral artery disease. Additionally, it alleviates atherosclerotic symptoms by reducing the risk of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke due to cardiovascular concerns in patients with acute coronary syndrome. For patients with atrial fibrillation who have a low bleeding risk and are unsuitable for vitamin K antagonists, this medication helps reduce the risk of stroke and thromboembolism. This medication can effectively improve the symptoms of vascular-related diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

1. For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral artery disease, 75 mg of clopidogrel is administered orally once daily. 2. For patients with acute coronary syndrome, initiate with a loading dose of 300 mg orally once on the first day, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg orally once daily. At this time, 75-325 mg of aspirin should be co-administered once daily. 3. For patients with atrial fibrillation, 75 mg is administered orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication prevents blood platelets from sticking together and helps prevent clot formation. This medication is converted into its active form by a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) in the liver; individuals with reduced enzyme function may experience decreased efficacy. Co-administration with drugs that activate the CYP2C19 enzyme may increase drug concentration in blood and elevate bleeding risk, so such combinations should be avoided. Patients with allergies to this drug or its ingredients, bleeding disorders, severe liver damage, or those who are breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients at high risk of bleeding or with suspected bleeding symptoms should undergo regular blood tests, especially if taken with other antiplatelet or anticoagulant medications, necessitating extra caution. It is recommended to suspend this medication about 5 to 7 days before surgery, and it should be used with caution in patients with lesions prone to bleeding. Taking this medication may prolong bleeding time, leading to prolonged bleeding from minor injuries, so report to a doctor immediately if bleeding does not stop or is severe. Long-term use of this medication may rarely result in thrombocytopenia or severe blood disorders, so consult a healthcare provider immediately if symptoms of infection or unusual symptoms occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms, headaches, dizziness, rashes may occur as side effects, and severe bleeding or allergic reactions require immediate medical attention. The risk to the fetus during pregnancy is not significant, but there is a bleeding risk during delivery, so discontinuation before nerve blocking or delivery is advised. If breastfeeding, consult a doctor regarding the possibility of this medication passing into breast milk and about whether to discontinue breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, and elderly patients or those with impaired kidney or liver function are at higher bleeding risk and require careful dosage adjustment and observation. Overdose may increase bleeding risk, and since there is no specific antidote, treatment such as platelet transfusion may be necessary for severe bleeding. This medication has many drug interaction potentials, and particularly when taken with drugs that increase bleeding risk, discuss it with a healthcare provider. During the course of taking this medication, inform the medical staff about it when starting new medications or planning surgery.
