This medication is used to treat major diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, acute gout, and dysmenorrhea. It is also effective for alleviating various pains, including bursitis, sprains, strains, trauma, low back pain, and pain occurring after surgery or tooth extraction, as well as migraines. This medication is used for managing various joint and musculoskeletal diseases and pain.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis Administer 250–500 mg of naproxen orally twice a day (every 12 hours). 2. Acute gout Initially administer 750 mg orally and then 250 mg orally every 8 hours until the attack subsides. 3. Skeletal muscle disorders, postoperative pain, post-extraction pain, dysmenorrhea, tendinitis, bursitis Initially administer 500 mg orally, followed by 250 mg every 6–8 hours.

Precautions

This medication may cause gastrointestinal bleeding in individuals who regularly consume three or more alcoholic beverages daily; therefore, consultation with a physician or pharmacist is essential. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including this medication, can increase the risk of thromboembolic events in the cardiovascular system, myocardial infarction, and stroke, especially in individuals with cardiovascular diseases or risk factors. This medication may cause serious gastrointestinal adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforations, so caution is advised when used in the elderly or individuals with a history of gastrointestinal diseases. Individuals with peptic ulcers, severe blood disorders, liver dysfunction, heart failure, kidney dysfunction, hypertension, or allergies to this medication or similar medications should not take this medication. This medication may affect blood coagulation, so caution should be exercised when used by individuals who have a tendency to bleed or a history of blood disorders. Patients with poor liver or kidney function, hypertension, asthma, or the elderly require careful observation and management while taking this medication. Hypersensitivity reactions such as difficulty breathing, hypotension, rashes, etc. may occur; if any abnormal symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. This medication can cause various gastrointestinal symptoms such as gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain, so inform the healthcare professional if symptoms are severe. Because this medication may affect liver and kidney function, regular checks and monitoring are necessary if taken for an extended period. The risk of side effects may increase when taken with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or specific medications; therefore, consult a specialist when co-administering. This medication should not be taken during late pregnancy, and after mid-pregnancy, it may affect fetal kidney function, so it should only be used at the minimum dose for a short duration if necessary. Breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication as it may be transmitted through breast milk and cause side effects in infants. It is advisable not to use this medication in children, especially those under 2 years of age, as safety has not been established; if necessary, it should be administered cautiously at the minimum dose. Elderly patients are at a higher risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and should start with a low dose while carefully monitoring their condition. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, indigestion, and vomiting may appear; in such cases, appropriate medical treatment should be sought immediately. Interactions

Drug interactions

This medication should not be taken with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and naproxen derivatives. Phenytoin-based anticonvulsants, sulfonamides, sulfonylurea-based hypoglycemic agents, propranolol and other beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors (such as captopril), loop and thiazide diuretics, probenecid, aspirin, lithium, methotrexate, coumarin anticoagulants (such as warfarin), zidovudine, and quinolone antibiotics (such as enoxacin).

Storage

This medication must be stored in a tightly sealed container to avoid exposure to air or moisture. It is best to maintain a storage temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature.
