Mucolysis and improvement of sputum expectoration in acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medication helps to thin the mucus in acute and chronic respiratory diseases, facilitating the expulsion of phlegm and making breathing easier. It is effective in improving symptoms of cough and phlegm. It is used to support respiratory health.
Adults: Administer 300mg of erdosteine orally per dose, 2~3 times daily. (Take orally) When administered for acute respiratory diseases, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.
This medicine should not be used by those who have allergic reactions to this drug or its components. It should not be administered to patients with liver cirrhosis or specific enzyme deficiencies as it may interfere with methionine metabolism in the body. Patients with peptic ulcers should also avoid this medication as it may worsen their symptoms. It is safer not to use this medicine in cases of severely impaired kidney function, especially if the creatinine clearance is less than 25 mL/min. Patients with severely impaired liver function should not take this medication. Those with slightly or moderately impaired liver function should take care not to exceed 300mg per day and should take it cautiously under doctor's advice. Overdosing can lead to symptoms such as excessive sweating, dizziness, and facial flushing. Neurological and respiratory-related side effects like headaches, cold symptoms, and difficulty breathing may occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn may also appear, so caution is advised. Allergic reactions on the skin such as hives, red spots, and eczema may occur. Reported side effects in South Korea include fatigue, indigestion, headaches, palpitations, swelling of the face or body, itching, and lethargy, but a direct relation to this drug is not certain. Taking this medicine along with cough medicine may increase the risk of bronchial infection due to the difficulty in phlegm expulsion caused by its cough-relieving effect, and it may also induce bronchoconstriction, so caution is particularly advised when taken together. It is advisable not to take this medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding due to undisclosed safety. It should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original container to prevent quality deterioration or accidents.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medicine may be sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a sealed container. It is advisable to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius to safely preserve the drug's effectiveness.
