Adults and children aged 12 years or older or weighing 40 kg or more are administered Amoxicillin / Clavulanate potassium at 250 mg / 125 mg once every 8 hours, three times a day. For severe and respiratory infections, the dose can be increased to 500 mg / 125 mg at a time. In cases of renal impairment, dosing adjustments should be made according to creatinine clearance, For patients with a creatinine clearance of 30 mL/min or more, no dose adjustment is needed.
Child dose
For children under 12 years or weighing less than 40 kg, dosage should be similarly reduced.

This medication is effective for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It is used for respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, empyema, and lung abscess, as well as tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It also helps in the treatment of urogenital infections such as cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis and gonorrhea, and pelvic infections. It is effective for skin and soft tissue infections such as furuncles, abscesses, cellulitis, wound infections, and osteomyelitis. It is also used for the treatment of dental infections, targeting various pathogens including ampicillin and amoxicillin-resistant bacteria. Therefore, it is used for the improvement of several bacterial infections.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children aged 12 years or older or weighing 40 kg or more are administered Amoxicillin / Clavulanate potassium at 250 mg / 125 mg once every 8 hours, three times a day. For severe and respiratory infections, the dose can be increased to 500 mg / 125 mg at a time. In cases of renal impairment, dosing adjustments should be made according to creatinine clearance, For patients with a creatinine clearance of 30 mL/min or more, no dose adjustment is needed.

Child dose

For children under 12 years or weighing less than 40 kg, dosage should be similarly reduced.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to specific components or to beta-lactam antibiotics. Particularly, caution is needed in patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia due to a high risk of rash. Patients with liver function issues should avoid use, as it may recur liver dysfunction symptoms. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function should use this medication with caution, requiring adjustments in dosing intervals or amounts. Patients with allergies, the elderly, or those in poor general health should be administered this medication carefully, as there may be signs of vitamin K deficiency. If gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea occur, it may interfere with drug absorption. This medication may cause gastrointestinal adverse reactions like diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or loss of appetite; if symptoms worsen, consult a physician immediately. Regular liver function tests should be conducted, as abnormalities or jaundice may appear, particularly in those over 60 years of age. Serious skin adverse reactions, such as rash or itching, including severe cases like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, may occur; if unusual symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately. Regular blood tests are necessary as abnormality may arise, such as leukopenia or thrombocytopenia. Nervous system symptoms such as anxiety, confusion, or convulsions may rarely occur, so if these symptoms arise, medical staff should be notified immediately. Patients with kidney function issues may present acute renal failure or hematuria, requiring careful monitoring. Use of this medication may disrupt the balance of normal intestinal flora, potentially leading to fungal infections such as candidiasis. Patients should report any bleeding symptoms immediately, as vitamin K deficiency may lead to bleeding tendencies. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are advised to avoid using this medication, especially during the first three months. Similar caution should be taken if breastfeeding, as adverse reactions may occur in infants. Children, particularly those under the age of 12 or weighing less than 40 kg, have limited experience with this medication, so its use is not recommended. The elderly may experience a higher incidence of adverse reactions due to decreased physiological function, thereby doses and intervals should be adjusted and used cautiously. During treatment with this medication, certain clinical tests, such as urine tests or liver function tests, may yield altering results; thus, you should inform testing staff that you are taking this medication. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, renal dysfunction, or neurological symptoms may arise; if symptoms appear, seek medical attention immediately.
