Summary

Main use
Adjunctive treatment for smoking cessation
Who uses it
Adults · Children
Adult dosage
After dose titration over 1 week, administer 1 mg twice daily. Days 1 – 3: 0.5 mg once daily Days 4 – 7: 0.5 mg twice daily Day 8 – end of treatment: 1 mg twice daily This medicine should be taken after meals with plenty of water. Patients who cannot tolerate the adverse reactions of Zeropix may temporarily or permanently reduce the dose. Zeropix is administered for 12 weeks. For patients who successfully quit smoking with the first 12 weeks of treatment, an additional 12 weeks of Zeropix is recommended to increase the likelihood of long-term abstinence. For patients who cannot or do not wish to stop smoking abruptly, consider gradually reducing smoking while taking this medicine. Within the first 4 weeks after starting this medicine, reduce smoking by 50% compared with before treatment; reduce it by a further 50% within the following 4 weeks, and continue to reduce smoking so that complete abstinence is achieved by week 12. Administer this medicine for an additional 12 weeks for a total treatment duration of 24 weeks. No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild (estimated creatinine clearance > 50 mL/min and ≤ 80 mL/min) to moderate (estimated creatinine clearance ≥ 30 mL/min and ≤ 50 mL/min) renal impairment. In patients with severe renal impairment (estimated creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min), the recommended starting dose of Zeropix is 0.5 mg once daily. If needed, the maximum dose is 0.5 mg twice daily. In patients with end-stage renal disease receiving hemodialysis, a maximum dose of 0.5 mg once daily may be administered if well tolerated. No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with hepatic impairment. Because renal function is more likely to be reduced in elderly patients, use caution when selecting the dose; monitoring renal function may be useful.
Children's dosage
Use in patients under 18 years of age is not recommended.

View approved original text

Supportive therapy for smoking cessation is a method that helps individuals who want to quit smoking. This treatment focuses on alleviating withdrawal symptoms and reducing cravings for smoking. It is often used in conjunction with nicotine replacement therapies (patches, gum, etc.) or medication treatments to assist in successful smoking cessation. Additionally, counseling and behavioral therapy are included to strengthen the will to quit smoking. Such supportive therapies are effective in increasing the success rate of quitting smoking and are widely used for those who plan to quit.
