Improvement of symptoms of Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used to improve symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. It helps alleviate memory decline, cognitive impairment, and reduced ability to perform daily activities. This drug contributes to symptom relief by modulating the function of neurotransmitters in the brain. It aims to enhance the quality of life of patients by gently alleviating behavioral disturbances or emotional distress caused by dementia. Regular use may also be expected to slow the progression of dementia symptoms. In summary, it is used to treat dementia symptoms and improve functional abilities.
For Donepezil Hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. For 4-6 weeks, the dosage of 5 mg should be administered. After evaluating clinical response during this period, the dosage may be increased to 10 mg. If increasing the dose to 10 mg per day, monitor for gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Underweight females aged 85 or older should not exceed 5 mg per day and require careful monitoring.
There is no experience of use in pediatric patients.
This medication contains Donepezil Hydrochloride Monohydrate as the active ingredient and is primarily used to relieve symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this drug or its ingredients, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and patients with inherited metabolic disorders such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease or those at risk of a slowed heart rate, a history of peptic ulcers or those currently taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease history, patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease, and those allergic to any of the dyes included in this medication should use it cautiously. Various side effects may occur with this medication. For example, heart-related issues such as fainting, bradycardia, or heart block may occur, as well as gastrointestinal issues such as peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Serious side effects have been reported including liver dysfunction, cerebrovascular problems, seizures, muscle abnormalities, shortness of breath, acute pancreatitis, and acute renal failure. Neurological side effects may include hallucinations, anxiety, insomnia, drowsiness, depression, and confusion, as well as musculoskeletal issues, skin rashes, and blood abnormalities. This medication may affect the cardiovascular system, so patients with heart disease or electrolyte abnormalities may require regular electrocardiogram tests. Additionally, this medication may affect driving or the ability to operate machinery, so caution is advised during the initial phase of use. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication, and if necessary, should do so only after consulting a professional. This medication can interact with various drugs; therefore, if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your healthcare provider. Caution is especially needed when used in combination with heart-related medications, antidepressants, antibiotics, or anticholinergic drugs. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, hypotension, respiratory depression, and convulsions may occur, and one should seek appropriate medical treatment immediately. Finally, this medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be stored in any other container.
