How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Administer (take) 300 mg of erdosteine orally 2~3 times daily. When used for acute respiratory diseases, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. Firstly, patients who have allergic reactions to this medication or its components should not take it. Secondly, patients with cirrhosis and cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency should avoid this medication, as its metabolites may interfere with methionine metabolism in the body. Thirdly, patients with peptic ulcers should not take this medication. Fourthly, patients with severely impaired kidney function, specifically those with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min, should not use this medication. Fifthly, patients with severely impaired liver function should also refrain from taking this medication. Sixthly, since this medication contains lactose, patients with genetic conditions such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Additionally, some patients should take this medication with caution. Patients with mild to moderate liver dysfunction may not have an increased risk of adverse effects, but care should be taken not to exceed 300 mg per day. Diabetic patients or those on a low-calorie diet should be particularly cautious when taking the syrup formulation. Overdose may result in excessive sweating, dizziness, and facial flushing. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as headaches, cold symptoms, difficulty breathing, taste disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn have also been reported. Skin reactions may include hives, red spots, and eczema. Additionally, symptoms such as fatigue, dyspepsia, palpitations, facial or generalized edema, itching, weakness, confusion, and rashes have been reported. When taken with expectorants, this medication may make it difficult for phlegm to be expelled from the bronchial passages due to the reduction in cough, potentially increasing the risk of broncho-pulmonary infections. It may also affect bronchial contraction and relaxation, so caution is warranted. Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding mothers, are advised against taking this medication due to insufficient safety data. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers to maintain quality and prevent accidents.
