Relief of perennial allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria, and itching associated with skin disorders
This medication is used to relieve itching (pruritus) associated with perennial allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria, and various skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis.
In general, adults should take 10mg of bepotastine besilate orally twice daily. The dose may be adjusted as appropriate according to age and symptoms.
This medicine should not be used by patients who are hypersensitive to any of its components. Particular caution should be taken when administering this medicine to patients with impaired kidney function, liver dysfunction, and elderly patients. Some individuals in clinical trials have reported central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, as well as gastrointestinal symptoms including dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Additionally, adverse effects including blood parameter changes, elevated liver function tests, renal abnormal results, and hypersensitive reactions such as skin rash or swelling have been reported. As drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. If patients who have been undergoing long-term steroid treatment take this medication, the dosage of steroids should be reduced gradually. Patients with weak kidney function may experience increased blood concentration of this drug, thus initiating treatment with a lower dose and careful monitoring of their condition is necessary. Since the effectiveness of this medication has not been adequately studied in patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis, it should be used with caution, starting treatment before the onset of symptoms and continuing until the symptoms resolve. If no effect occurs, it is advisable not to continue taking the medication for long periods. As with other antihistamines, concomitant use with alcohol can be hazardous, so it should be avoided. Women who are pregnant or potentially pregnant are advised not to use this medication; if it must be used, consultation with a physician is recommended prior to careful decision making. Lactating women should also avoid this medication as it may be excreted in breast milk, and if absolutely necessary, it is best to discontinue breastfeeding. Safety in pediatric patients has not been sufficiently established, so caution is necessary when administering to children. Elderly patients may experience elevated concentrations of this drug due to decreased kidney function, so dosage adjustment and monitoring are necessary. This medication may affect allergy test results, thus it is advisable to discontinue use prior to such tests. Care should be taken to avoid accidental swallowing of the PTP sheet packaging, and instructions should be provided to remove the sheet before administration. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, avoiding moisture and kept at a temperature below 30 degrees Celsius.
