This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It particularly lowers the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, angina, and vascular surgeries in adults with multiple risk factors and in diabetic patients. For those already diagnosed with heart disease, it can reduce the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, and hospitalization due to heart failure. It is also effective in treating hyperlipidemia, reducing cholesterol and triglycerides in patients with primary and mixed dyslipidemia while increasing good HDL cholesterol levels. It is used in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and is useful as an adjunctive treatment when dietary control is inadequate. This medication is used to improve cardiovascular health and effectively reduce the risk of disease.
For hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, but patients requiring greater reduction of LDL cholesterol may start with 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The administration dosage should be individualized within the range of 10 to 80 mg once daily based on treatment goals and responses, with lipid levels analyzed 2 to 4 weeks later to adjust the dosage.
