How to take

Adult dose

For adults and children over 12 years of age or weighing 40 kg or more, amoxicillin/potassium clavulanate is administered orally at a dose of 250mg/125mg three times a day every 8 hours. In cases of severe and respiratory infections, the dose may be increased to 500mg/125mg at a time. In cases of renal impairment, dosage may be adjusted based on creatinine clearance. For a creatinine clearance of 10~30mL/min, 250~500mg is given at a time.

Child dose

For children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg, amoxicillin/potassium clavulanate is administered orally at a dose of 250mg/125mg three times a day every 8 hours. In cases of renal impairment, use the same method as adults.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients who have a hypersensitivity reaction to penicillin and beta-lactam antibiotics. Caution is particularly needed in cases where there has been a previous experience of anaphylaxis or severe skin reactions. For patients with concomitant viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia, the risk of rash is increased, so use should be avoided. Patients who have had liver function issues should use this medication carefully as liver dysfunction may recur. Hepatic impairment patients may experience worsening liver function, so caution is necessary, and patients with moderate to severe renal impairment should adjust dosing intervals as the drug may remain in the body for a longer time, leading to side effects. Patients with allergic conditions, poor nutritional status, and the elderly should be cautious as they may have an increased risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occur, and in severe cases, serious adverse reactions such as pseudomembranous colitis or acute pancreatitis may occur, so if symptoms are severe, discontinue use and consult a doctor immediately. Symptoms of liver dysfunction may occur during treatment or even after discontinuation, so regular liver function tests are necessary. Skin rash, itching, and in severe cases, serious skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms appear, discontinue the medication at once and follow your doctor's instructions. Changes in blood tests such as leukopenia or thrombocytopenia have been rarely reported, so testing is necessary if abnormal symptoms occur. Nervous system-related symptoms such as anxiety, restlessness, and seizures may rarely occur, and patients with reduced kidney function are at higher risk of seizures. Patients with renal impairment may experience acute kidney failure or hematuria, so kidney function should be monitored regularly. This medication may affect intestinal flora, causing imbalances leading to conditions such as candidiasis or stomatitis, so treatment is necessary if symptoms occur. Vitamin K or vitamin B deficiency symptoms may rarely appear, so caution is needed with long-term use. This medication interacts with many other drugs, so be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist, especially when taking anticoagulants, probenecid, allopurinol, disulfiram, etc. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid taking it, especially in the first three months of pregnancy, and nursing mothers should discontinue use if adverse effects occur in infants. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg. The elderly may experience trends toward bleeding or adverse reactions more easily due to decreased physical function, so use should be cautious with adjusted doses and intervals. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, electrolyte imbalances, renal failure, seizures, and hypersensitivity shock may occur, so if this happens, discontinue use immediately and seek appropriate treatment. Storage should be in a tightly sealed container away from moisture, and should be kept in a cool, dry place below 25 degrees Celsius. This will help maintain the medication's effectiveness for as long as possible.
