This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Especially in adult patients with multiple risk factors and those with type 2 diabetes, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. Additionally, in patients with clinical evidence of coronary heart disease, it lowers the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular revascularization, and angina, and also reduces the risk of hospitalization due to congestive heart failure. This drug is also used to lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels and increase good cholesterol (HDL) in patients with primary and mixed hyperlipidemia. It is effective for patients with dyslipidemia that do not respond to dietary therapy and certain familial hypercholesterolemia. It also aids in managing hypercholesterolemia in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. In summary, this medication is used for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and improvement of hyperlipidemia.
