Mucolytic and expectorant effects in acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medication helps to dissolve mucus accumulated in the body during acute and chronic respiratory diseases, making it easier to expel during coughing. Thus, it helps maintain clear airways and is effective in symptom relief. This efficacy supports patients in breathing more comfortably.
Adults: Administer 300mg of erdosteine per dose orally, 2~3 times daily. When used for acute respiratory disease, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.
This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this drug or any of its components. Patients with liver cirrhosis or certain enzyme deficiencies should avoid this medication as its metabolites can harm the body. Patients with peptic ulcers should also not take this medication. In cases of severe renal impairment, using this medication may pose health risks. It is also advisable for patients with severe liver dysfunction to refrain from taking this medication. Patients with mild to moderate liver function impairment should use this medication cautiously, ensuring the daily dosage does not exceed 300 mg. Excessive intake of this medication may result in symptoms such as excessive sweating, dizziness, and facial flushing. Headache, cold symptoms, and shortness of breath may occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include altered taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Skin reactions such as hives, red spots, and eczema may appear. Other reported side effects potentially related to this medication include fatigue, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal disorders, headache, acid reflux, palpitations, swelling of the face or body, itching, lethargy, confusion, and rash. When taken together with an expectorant, it may relieve cough while making it difficult for mucus to be expelled, increasing the risk of bronchial infection, and may cause bronchoconstriction, so caution is advised. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should avoid this medication due to uncertain safety.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
