Prevention of acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with anticancer therapy, and prevention and treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting
This medication is used to prevent acute and delayed nausea and vomiting caused by moderately and severely emetogenic chemotherapy in both adults and children. It is also effective in preventing nausea and vomiting occurring within 24 hours after surgery and in treating nausea and vomiting that has already occurred postoperatively. In other words, it is utilized to prevent and alleviate nausea and vomiting symptoms related to chemotherapy or surgery.
1) Prevention of nausea and vomiting induced by anticancer chemotherapy: Administer a single 0.25 mg dose of palonosetron by intravenous injection over at least 30 seconds, 30 minutes before the start of chemotherapy. 2) Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting: Administer a single 0.075 mg dose by intravenous injection over at least 10 seconds immediately before induction of anesthesia. As with other antiemetics, routine administration is not recommended for patients expected to have a low likelihood of postoperative nausea and vomiting. Administration of this medicine is recommended for patients in whom postoperative nausea and vomiting should be avoided, even if the likelihood of its occurrence is low. 3) Treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting: As soon as nausea and vomiting occur, administer a single 0.075 mg dose by intravenous injection over at least 10 seconds. No dose adjustment is required in elderly patients or patients with hepatic or renal impairment. No clinical data are available for patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing dialysis.
Aged 2 months or older: For the prevention of acute nausea and vomiting induced by anticancer chemotherapy, administer palonosetron 0.02mg/kg (maximum 1.5mg) by intravenous infusion over at least 15 minutes as a single dose, 30 minutes before the start of chemotherapy. Neonates: The safety and efficacy of this medicine have not been established (no data are available). Infants (under 24 months): Data on the use of this medicine for the prevention of nausea and vomiting induced by anticancer chemotherapy are limited.
