This medication is used to reduce various risks of cardiovascular disease. It lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and patients with type 2 diabetes. It also lowers the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgery, hospitalization due to heart failure, and angina. For patients with hyperlipidemia, it helps to reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL cholesterol when used in conjunction with dietary therapy. It is particularly effective in managing dyslipidemia in pediatric patients with a family history or at high risk. This medication is used for the treatment of cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidemia.
