Precautions

This medication is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin or cephalosporin drugs or a history of allergy to any ingredient in this medication. Particularly, patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia are at a higher risk of rash and should avoid using this medication. Patients who have experienced liver dysfunction or jaundice from this medication or penicillin-based drugs in the past should also avoid administration due to the risk of recurrence. Patients with impaired liver function should use this medication cautiously as it may worsen liver function. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment may have prolonged retention of the medication in the body, and dosing intervals should be adjusted accordingly. Caution is needed for allergic patients or those with a family history, as symptoms such as bronchial asthma, skin rash, and urticaria may easily occur. Patients who have difficulty swallowing, the elderly, or those in poor general condition may show signs of vitamin K deficiency and should be monitored. Patients with gastrointestinal disorders experiencing severe vomiting or diarrhea may not absorb the medication properly, so caution is advised. This medication may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and serious intestinal infections such as pseudomembranous colitis may occur, so treatment should be discontinued immediately if unusual symptoms occur. Symptoms of liver dysfunction have also been reported; this is particularly more common in the elderly and males, so regular liver function tests are needed during prolonged treatment. Rarely, severe hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash and anaphylactic shock may occur, and these should result in immediate discontinuation of use and medical attention. Blood abnormalities such as leukocytopenia and thrombocytopenia have also been reported, so monitoring through blood tests is necessary with long-term use. Central nervous system adverse reactions such as anxiety, confusion, and seizures may infrequently appear, so care must be taken if neurological symptoms arise. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid using this medication, particularly in the first trimester, and breastfeeding women should also take care as side effects may occur in the infant. This medication is only recommended for children aged 12 and over or weighing over 40 kg, as there is insufficient experience for younger children. Elderly patients may more easily experience adverse effects due to decreased physiological function, so dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted, and their condition should be closely monitored. While taking this medication, there may be interactions with other drugs, particularly anticoagulants, probenecid, and allopurinol, and caution is warranted when taken together. Additionally, the effectiveness of oral contraceptives may decrease, so patients taking them should be aware of this. In case of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, renal failure, and seizures may occur, so medical personnel should be notified immediately for appropriate treatment. Storage should be in a cool, dry place below 25 degrees Celsius to maintain efficacy.
