Precautions

This drug is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. However, it may cause serious side effects such as tendinitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system effects, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis, requiring caution. Particularly, tendinitis and tendon rupture may occur rapidly after administration of this medication, and may sometimes appear simultaneously in both tendons. If these symptoms occur, discontinue taking the medication immediately, rest, and avoid exercise. Patients with myasthenia gravis may experience worsening symptoms with this medication and should avoid its use. Additionally, fluoroquinolone antibiotics like this one may increase the risk of seizures, so caution is warranted in patients with a history of epilepsy or seizures. This medication is not to be administered to children and adolescents in growth, pregnant or nursing women, and patients with epilepsy. Furthermore, patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Elderly patients or those with severely impaired kidney function, central nervous system diseases or suspected conditions require careful dose adjustment and monitoring. Diabetic patients who take this medication alongside insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents may experience significant fluctuations in blood glucose levels, so blood glucose should be meticulously monitored. This drug may cause various side effects, including severe allergic reactions, skin rashes, liver dysfunction, blood disorders, gastrointestinal disturbances, musculoskeletal issues, and if any unusual symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. Additionally, its absorption may be reduced when taken with certain antacids or medications containing iron, calcium, etc., making it important to maintain intervals between doses. Caution is also advised when used in conjunction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs due to an increased risk of seizures. During treatment with this medication, excessive sun exposure should be avoided, and care should be taken when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. In case of overdose, central nervous system symptoms and heart abnormalities may occur, necessitating immediate treatment at a hospital; this medication is not removed through hemodialysis. This drug should only be used for the minimum necessary period determined through susceptibility testing to prevent the occurrence of resistant bacteria and is best used only when no alternative treatments are available.
