Precautions

This medication is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be administered to patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillin-class drugs. Caution is especially needed for those with a history of severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or shock. It should also be avoided in patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia due to the risk of side effects such as rashes. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice are also advised against taking it due to the risk of recurrence. Caution should be exercised in patients with liver impairment as liver function may further deteriorate, and dosage intervals must be adjusted for patients with severe kidney impairment due to potential increases in drug concentration. Patients with allergies or severe gastrointestinal issues, elderly patients, and those in poor general health should also be monitored closely. This medication can cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, gastritis, and abdominal pain, and in severe cases, serious colitis can occur, requiring immediate discontinuation at the onset of symptoms. Abnormal liver function has been reported, particularly in the elderly or males experiencing symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice, necessitating regular liver function tests during prolonged use. Rarely, skin rashes, itching, or severe skin reactions may occur; any abnormal symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with a physician. Hematologic side effects, such as leukopenia or thrombocytopenia, may require blood testing. Neurological symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, or seizures are also rare; caution is advised if neurological symptoms arise. This medication is excreted through the kidneys, so dosage adjustments are necessary for patients with reduced kidney function, and overdose may present gastrointestinal symptoms and kidney damage requiring immediate treatment. It is advisable to avoid this medication in early pregnancy and to discontinue during breastfeeding if adverse symptoms develop in the infant. The use in children is recommended only for those aged 12 years and older or weighing over 40 kg. Elderly patients require careful adjustment of dosage and intervals due to heightened side effect risks from declining physiological functions. Regular monitoring of liver and kidney function and blood status is required during use, and interactions with other drugs should be carefully considered. Particularly, concomitant use with anticoagulants, probenecid, or allopurinol may increase the risk of side effects, requiring consultation with a physician. If symptoms such as diarrhea, rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling occur after taking the medication, it is crucial to stop administration and inform healthcare personnel immediately.
