Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure (including ACE inhibitor intolerance), reduction of mortality risk after myocardial infarction
This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It is also effective in treating heart failure in patients with ACE inhibitor intolerance. After myocardial infarction, it helps reduce the risk of mortality in patients with left ventricular failure or dysfunction. This drug is used to improve cardiovascular health and protect heart function.
1. Essential Hypertension - Adults: It is recommended to take 80 mg of valsartan orally once a day. - If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose can be increased to 160 mg per day, and a maximum of 320 mg can be used. - Elderly patients (75 years and older): Start with 40 mg taken once a day. - Patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance 10-20 mL/min): Start with 40 mg taken once a day.
Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years have not been established.
This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it must be stopped immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this drug or its components, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, patients with severe liver impairment or cirrhosis, patients with hereditary angioedema, patients with severe kidney disorders, or patients with specific kidney diseases. Elderly patients, or those with hyperkalemia, mild to moderate liver impairment, heart disease, or fluid depletion should use this drug with particular caution, and it is safe to start at a lower dose and gradually increase. Since this drug lowers blood pressure, dizziness or fainting may occur due to sudden drops in blood pressure when taken initially, so if these symptoms appear, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. Interactions may occur if taken with other medications for blood pressure control, so inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. While on this medication, it is crucial to regularly check kidney function and electrolyte levels through blood tests. Caution is needed during driving or operating machinery as dizziness might occur. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication; if nursing, either refrain from taking it or stop breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents have not been established, so it is advisable not to use it. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension or altered consciousness may occur, so adhere strictly to the dosage and visit a healthcare facility immediately if any adverse symptoms arise. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers for safety.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory distress accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and very severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, urine retention
