This medication helps prevent and manage asthma continuously. It is also used to relieve symptoms caused by seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily. Patients with asthma should take it in the evening. For patients with allergic rhinitis, the timing of administration is determined based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet, packet, or piece in the evening, once daily. Adults and adolescents aged 15 and older should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis. During treatment with this medication, significant neuropsychiatric side effects may occur, so patients and caregivers should be alert for symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts. If new neuropsychiatric symptoms or behavioral changes occur, discontinue use immediately and inform a physician. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria, who have problems metabolizing phenylalanine, should not take this medication. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should also avoid it. This medication is not effective during an acute asthma attack, so emergency inhalers should always be kept on hand. This medication should not suddenly replace other asthma therapies and should not be used alone for the treatment of exercise-induced bronchospasm. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin should not use aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while taking this medication. Various adverse reactions such as liver dysfunction, skin rashes, gastrointestinal problems, and respiratory symptoms may occur during treatment with this medication, so caution is needed. If pregnant or breastfeeding, use this medication only after consulting a physician and should be used only when necessary. It can also be used in children and the elderly, but dosages and administration should be carefully considered based on age. In cases of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, general treatment and observation are necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided. When taking this medication, it should be consistently taken daily according to a physician's instructions, and if symptoms worsen or new symptoms arise, consult a physician immediately.
