Treatment of chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout
This medication is used to treat chronic hyperuricemia, which is an abnormally high level of uric acid in the blood that occurs chronically in gout patients. It helps prevent joint pain and inflammation and reduces gout attacks. Taking the medication regularly maintains uric acid levels within the normal range, effectively improving symptoms. Therefore, it is used for the management of hyperuricemia and the prevention of gout.
Administer 40mg or 80mg once daily. This medicine acts very rapidly, so recheck the serum uric acid concentration after 2 weeks. The treatment goal is to lower and maintain the serum uric acid concentration at less than 6 mg/dL(357 μmol/L). No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate renal impairment. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have not been adequately evaluated in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 30mL/min). No special dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment. Only limited information is available for patients with moderate hepatic impairment, and the efficacy and safety of this medicine have not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child Pugh class C).
This medication may increase cardiovascular mortality in patients with cardiovascular diseases, so its administration should be carefully considered in such patients. It should not be administered to patients with allergies to the active ingredient or excipients, those taking mercaptopurine or azathioprine, and those with certain genetic lactose metabolism abnormalities. Patients with a history of liver disease or thyroid dysfunction, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, and those taking theophylline should have their liver function monitored periodically during treatment with this medication. While taking this medication, various side effects such as liver function abnormality, diarrhea, headache, rash, fatigue, and dizziness may occur, and if symptoms appear, consultation with a physician should be sought immediately. This medication should not be started during an acute gout attack, and an increase in gout attacks may occur temporarily at the beginning of treatment, requiring preventive medication with NSAIDs or colchicine. This medication may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or decreased sensation, so caution should be exercised during activities like driving or operating machinery. Severe allergic reactions, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or anaphylaxis, may occur, and if such symptoms appear, discontinuation and visit to a medical institution are necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication, and it is not to be used in children or adolescents under 18 due to insufficient experience.</n> This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is required, especially when used in combination with mercaptopurine, azathioprine, theophylline, or naproxen. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and symptomatic treatment should be provided; it should be stored out of reach of children.
