This medication helps prevent asthma and supports ongoing treatment. It is also effective in alleviating symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it is used to improve respiratory-related allergy symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose for adults is once daily. For asthma patients, it should be taken in the evening. For allergic rhinitis patients, the administration time should be determined by the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis are advised to take 1 tablet, 1 pack, or 1 sheet once daily in the evening. Adults and teenagers aged 15 and older should take 10 mg of montelukast once daily orally.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals allergic to this medication or any of its ingredients. This medication contains lactose; patients with a genetic disorder that impairs lactose digestion should not take it. This medication is not intended for treating acute asthma attacks; separate emergency treatment is required in case of acute symptoms. Asthma patients should carry an emergency inhaler at all times while taking this medication. When reducing the dosage of inhaled steroids, it must be done gradually under a doctor's instruction, and this medication should not be suddenly substituted for asthma treatment. Neuropsychiatric symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety, and depression may occur while taking this medication, so consult a doctor if these symptoms arise. If exercise worsens asthma symptoms, this medication should not be used alone and should be accompanied by inhaled bronchodilators. Patients allergic to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid these medications while taking this drug. Patients taking this drug may experience rare side effects such as eosinophilia or vasculitis; therefore, immediate medical attention should be sought if symptoms such as rash, respiratory deterioration, or heart problems occur. No significant interactions with other medications have been reported, but caution is advised when taking with specific medications that induce certain liver metabolic enzymes. Consult a doctor before use if pregnant or breastfeeding, and it is advisable not to use if the necessity is not clearly established. Children and the elderly can also use this medication, but especially for children, it should be taken according to the exact dosage and method directed by a physician. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be taken immediately after opening and stored in a cool place out of children's reach.
