Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication effectively reduces the risk of death from coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, and stroke in adult patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease. It also helps reduce the risk of complications that may occur after arterial revascularization. It is used to treat hyperlipidemia, particularly lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. This drug is also suitable for patients with homozygous and heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and can improve blood lipid levels in pediatric patients under specific criteria. Overall, this drug is used to promote cardiovascular health and control blood lipid concentrations.
For reduction of cardiovascular disease risk: The recommended initial starting dose is 40 mg once daily. For hyperlipidemia: The usual recommended initial starting dose is 20 mg once daily in the evening. Patients with mild to moderate hypercholesterolemia can start with 10 mg, and 5–40 mg may be given once daily in the evening. Prior to administration, initial LDL cholesterol levels, target treatment levels, and the patient's drug response should be considered for dosage adjustment.
Pediatric patients (10–17 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily in the evening. The recommended dosage range is 10–40 mg per day, with a maximum dose of 40 mg.
