Relief of arthritis, spondylitis, and chronic pain (e.g., back and shoulder pain)
This medication is used when other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are insufficiently effective or have no response. It is mainly administered for chronic inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also used for conditions such as chronic low back pain, inflammation around the shoulder joint (shoulder periarthritis), and frozen shoulder syndrome. This medication helps relieve inflammation and pain, improving the daily lives of patients.
Adults: Administer 20 mg of piroxicam intramuscularly once daily. The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg of piroxicam. To reduce the risk of adverse reactions, use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible. The therapeutic effect and tolerability should be reviewed within 14 days after starting this medicine. If continued treatment is considered necessary, more frequent reviews should be conducted. The oral or suppository formulation of this medicine may be used concomitantly; however, the total dose administered by both routes must not exceed the maximum recommended daily dose.
This medication should be used with caution by those who regularly consume more than three drinks per day, as this increases the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. As it is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, patients with cardiovascular diseases or risk factors need to be careful as serious cardiovascular issues such as myocardial infarction and stroke may occur. Serious gastrointestinal side effects, such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforation may occur, so elderly patients or those with a history of gastrointestinal diseases should use it cautiously. Fatal skin adverse reactions such as skin rashes, severe dermatitis, and Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, so treatment should be discontinued immediately if any skin abnormalities occur. Products containing benzyl alcohol can cause respiratory problems in premature infants, so caution is advised. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal ulcers, bleeding, perforation, or severe liver, kidney, or heart disease should not take this medication. Patients who have had allergic reactions to aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should also avoid this medication. It is not to be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, elderly patients over 80 years of age, children, or infants. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal bleeding symptoms, skin abnormalities, cardiovascular symptoms, etc., should be carefully monitored, and any irregularities should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Regular blood tests and monitoring of liver and kidney function are necessary for long-term use, and if any abnormalities appear, the medication may need to be discontinued. There are many drug interactions, especially when taken with anticoagulants, diuretics, lithium, methotrexate, and corticosteroids, so caution is required. In case of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, drowsiness, and gastrointestinal bleeding may occur, requiring immediate treatment at a medical institution. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is safer not to transfer it to another container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication can be sensitive to light, so it should be stored in a light-blocking and sealed container. It is important to maintain a storage temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. Proper storage of the medication ensures its effectiveness and safety.
