As with other antihistamines, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided when taking this medication. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are advised not to use this medication unless absolutely necessary, and it should be used with caution under a doctor's supervision. Breastfeeding women are also advised to avoid using this medication since it may be passed through breast milk. The safety of this medication has not been established for children, so caution is advised in their use. Elderly patients should take care as drug concentrations may increase due to decreased kidney function. This medication can affect allergy testing, so it is better not to take it prior to testing.
