This medication is used when there is difficulty in expectoration in diseases such as acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, laryngitis, sinusitis, and cystic fibrosis.

How to take

Adult dose

Acute illness: 200 mg once, three times daily. Chronic illness: 200 mg once, twice daily.

Child dose

Acute illness: 200 mg once, twice daily for ages 6-14. Chronic illness: 100 mg once, three times daily for ages 6-14. Cystic fibrosis: 200 mg once, three times daily for ages 6 and older.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by anyone who is allergic to this medication or its ingredients. Additionally, patients with ulcers in the stomach or duodenum and children under 2 years old should not take this medication. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant must consult a doctor before taking this medication. It is also important for breastfeeding women to consult a professional before taking this medication, as it is not certain whether it passes into breast milk. If gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, inflammation of the mouth, heartburn, or diarrhea occur during use, discontinue taking it immediately and consult a doctor. If symptoms of hypersensitivity such as rash, itching, headache, tinnitus, or bronchospasm occur, inform a medical professional immediately. Rarely, rapid heartbeat or elevated blood pressure may occur, and very rarely, serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis may occur. If symptoms such as difficulty in breathing appear, discontinue use immediately and consult medical staff. This medication may reduce the effectiveness of certain oral antibiotics if taken together; therefore, it is recommended to take them at least 2 hours apart. Moreover, it should be avoided to mix other medications with this drug's solution. This medication should be stored in a safe place out of reach of children, and it is important to keep it in its original container to maintain the quality of the medication.
