Summary

Main use
Reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and improves hypercholesterolemia
Who uses it
Adults · Children
Adult dosage
For hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg of atorvastatin once daily; however, if a greater reduction of LDL cholesterol is needed, it may be started at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosage range is 10 to 80 mg once daily. The initial and maintenance doses should be individualized, and lipid levels should be analyzed to adjust the dosage after 2 to 4 weeks. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dosing regimen is once daily at 10 to 80 mg, typically in combination with other lipid-lowering therapies (e.g., LDL apheresis) or when such therapies are not feasible.
Children's dosage
For pediatric patients (10 to 17 years old) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, and the recommended maximum dose is 20 mg once daily. The dosage may be adjusted according to the therapeutic goals.

This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is effective in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors such as older age, smoking, hypertension, and in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Additionally, it lowers the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular interventions, congestive heart failure hospitalization, and angina in patients diagnosed with heart disease. Furthermore, it supports cardiovascular health by improving cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with hyperlipidemia. It is also used as an adjunct therapy for pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this drug is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improve dyslipidemia.
