Efficacy & effects

Effect of removing waste products from the body of patients with chronic renal failure and maintaining electrolyte balance

View approved original text

In patients with chronic renal failure, it uses artificial kidney dialysis perfusion fluid to remove accumulated waste and excess fluid from the body. This helps keep the blood clean even in a state of reduced kidney function and regulates electrolyte balance. The perfusion fluid effectively removes harmful substances from the body during dialysis and helps maintain the patient's condition. Therefore, it is used as a perfusion fluid in artificial kidney dialysis to improve the internal environment of patients with chronic renal failure.

How it is given

Adult administration

Depending on the patient's condition and the type of artificial kidney being used, an appropriate alkaline solution for artificial kidney dialysis should be selected and used with this liquid and purified water diluted.

Precautions

This drug should be used cautiously in patients with severe liver dysfunction or severe diabetes mellitus, as they may not properly metabolize acetate in the body. This can result in suppressed cardiac function or vasodilation causing hypotension during treatment. Additionally, caution is needed for patients taking digitalis, as low potassium levels in the blood can lead to drug toxicity. Patients with elevated serum calcium levels or very high serum phosphate levels before receiving dialysis should be cautious as this drug can induce abnormal deposition of calcium in the body. Patients with inadequate calorie intake or those on dietary restrictions or using glucose-lowering agents may experience hypoglycemia, necessitating caution. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur during or after dialysis, requiring appropriate measures such as glucose injection or sugar supply. As serum calcium levels may rise, it is necessary to switch to a low-calcium dialysis solution if symptoms of hypercalcemia are present. Due to the risk of bone-related complications such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, and fibrous osteitis, treatments such as administering active vitamin D3 may be necessary. Proper management to keep serum phosphate levels within the normal range through the use of phosphate binders is necessary due to the possibility of abnormal calcium deposition. Dialysis disequilibrium syndrome can manifest with symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, seizures, and altered consciousness, and in such cases, measures to decrease dialysis efficiency may be needed. As it can affect the circulatory system, resulting in hypotension or shock, if these symptoms occur, dialysis should be stopped or the efficiency reduced, and fluid replacement or antihypertensive agents should be administered. Rarely, an increase in blood pressure may occur during treatment, necessitating the administration of antihypertensive agents or switching to acetate-based dialysis solutions if blood pressure rises. This drug is used for hemodialysis in patients with chronic renal failure and is suitable for cases where metabolic acidosis improvements are insufficient or traditional dialysis solutions cannot be used due to disequilibrium syndrome or hypotension. It is appropriate for patients with glucose metabolism disorders who have difficulty controlling hyperglycemia. It is important to regularly check electrolytes, acid-base balance, and blood sugar through blood tests. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this drug if the benefits outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. Its safety in pediatric patients has not been established, so caution is needed. Elderly patients should carefully consider the characteristics of this drug, and since long-term use may lead to bone complications, regular clinical examinations and administration of active vitamin D3 may be recommended if necessary. Dewatered water for dialysis should be stored in sealed containers to prevent contact with air, and it is recommended to store it at room temperature between 1°C and 30°C. This will help maintain the drug's effectiveness.
