How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 and older take 10 mg of Montelukast orally once daily. Patients with asthma take it once daily in the evening. The dosing time for allergic rhinitis patients is determined according to the individual's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis take 1 tablet, 1 dose, or 1 packet in the evening once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis, helping to reduce bronchial inflammation and alleviate symptoms. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which requires the metabolism of phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, patients with the hereditary disease phenylketonuria should not take this medication. The daily intake limit for aspartame is based on body weight, with a maximum of 2.4g being safe for adults. Patients allergic to this medication or its components should not take it, and those with lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should also avoid it. During treatment, various adverse reactions such as fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, cough, and rash may occur, and patients should consult a healthcare professional if symptoms persist or worsen. Particularly for asthma patients, this medication is not a treatment for acute attacks, so a separate short-acting inhaler should be used in emergencies, and this medication is intended for long-term control of symptoms. During treatment, neurological or psychiatric symptoms may occur, such as changes in anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to a physician immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid using these medications while taking this drug. During treatment, the dosage of inhaled steroids may gradually be reduced according to a doctor's instructions; however, abrupt cessation or substitution may be dangerous. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, the medication should only be used when clearly necessary, and a physician should be consulted before taking it. It can also be used in children and the elderly, but safety and efficacy may vary by age, so it should be taken according to a physician's advice. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, thus general symptomatic treatment and monitoring by healthcare professionals are necessary, and patients should visit a hospital immediately if symptoms occur. This medication is sensitive to light, so do not open the packaging until just before use, and it is advisable to take it as quickly as possible after preparation. Store it in a location out of reach of children and do not transfer it to another container to maintain its quality. Finally, this medication should be taken consistently even if there are no asthma or allergy symptoms, and patients should consult their physician if symptoms worsen or change.
