This medication helps prevent and treat asthma continuously. It is also used to relieve the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily; for asthma patients, it should be taken in the evening, and for allergic rhinitis patients, dosing times are adjusted according to the patient's condition. For patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis, take 1 tablet, 1 packet, or 1 piece once daily in the evening. Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. During the use of this medication, there may be psychological side effects, so patients and caregivers should closely observe for changes such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria should avoid it. Also, this medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should not use it. In the case of acute asthma attacks, this medication is not suitable as an immediate treatment; therefore, always have an emergency inhaler ready. Do not use this medication alone for exercise-induced bronchospasm; if necessary, use it in combination with other medications as directed by a physician. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid the use of those medications while taking this medication. During the use of this medication, side effects such as liver dysfunction, skin rash, gastrointestinal disturbances, headaches, and dizziness may occur; inform a doctor if these unusual symptoms persist. If you are pregnant or nursing, consult a doctor before taking this medication, and it should be used only when necessary. Caution should be taken when using in children, especially infants under 6 months, as safety and efficacy have not been established. There is no specific antidote for overdose; seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and not transferred to other containers. Finally, this medication should be taken consistently, even if symptoms are absent, and any changes in the dosage of other asthma treatments during use must be discussed with a doctor.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweats, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/ocular mucosal pain, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory distress with coughing and fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion of consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination

Mild side effects

Agitation, aggressive behavior, anxiety, depression, disorientation, attention deficit, stuttering, sleep disturbances, hallucinations, insomnia, memory impairment, obsession, psychomotor hyperactivity (including hyperactivity, instability, tremors), sleepwalking, tics, dizziness, drowsiness, perception abnormalities/perceptual decline, seizure, palpitations, nosebleeds, pulmonary eosinophilia, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, increases in ALT and AST, cholestatic hepatitis, hepatic cellular damage
