Precautions

This medication can disrupt the balance of normal bacteria in the mouth, so it is advisable to avoid prolonged use. Individuals who have had an allergic reaction to this medication should not use it. Patients with asthma or other allergic conditions or family history of these conditions should be particularly cautious when using this medication. Using this medication in the mouth may cause staining of teeth or gums, increased tartar formation, and changes such as numbness in the mouth. In particular, children may experience peeling or slight irritation of the oral mucosa. Rarely, a severe allergic reaction (shock) can occur, so if symptoms such as nausea, discomfort, cold sweat, dizziness, or breathing difficulties arise, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention. If allergic symptoms such as rash or hives develop, use of this medication should be stopped, as in severe cases, life-threatening anaphylactic shock may occur. When using this medication or oral rinses containing it, there may be a rare temporary occurrence of parotitis (salivary gland inflammation). Antibiotics are needed for general bacterial infections, and the treatment period with this medication usually should not exceed 10 days. Patients with both gingivitis and periodontitis should not judge the treatment outcome of periodontitis based solely on the condition of gingivitis after being treated with this medication. This medication may cause staining on the surfaces of the mouth, including teeth, prosthetics, and the back of the tongue. Patients with rough or porous prosthetics are particularly prone to staining, so caution is advised, and if staining is undesirable, it is better not to use it. Pregnant women should only use this medication when the benefits outweigh the risks, and it is uncertain whether this medication is excreted in breast milk, so nursing mothers should use it cautiously as many drugs are excreted in breast milk. The efficacy and safety of this medication have not been fully established for children under 18 years of age. This medication should be used only as a rinse for the mouth and should not be ingested or swallowed. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, away from direct sunlight, in a cool, dry place. Additionally, it should not be placed near a heat source for safety.
