Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication can be used effectively to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled by monotherapy with telmisartan or amlodipine alone. This helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications associated with high blood pressure and improves the patient's health status. This medication contributes to an overall improvement in the patient's quality of life by stabilizing blood pressure.

Precautions

This medication should not be used during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters, as it can pose a serious risk to the fetus. It should not be administered to individuals with allergies to this medication’s active ingredients or similar drugs, as well as to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and to patients with certain liver or heart diseases. Patients with liver or gastrointestinal diseases, reduced kidney function, elderly patients, and those with specific heart valve diseases should use this medication with caution. Side effects such as dizziness or edema may commonly occur during treatment, and serious side effects may rarely develop; therefore, any unusual symptoms should be promptly discussed with healthcare professionals. As this medication can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, if hypotension is suspected, the patient should be laid down and receive intravenous therapy if necessary, and the dosage should be adjusted according to medical guidance when initiating treatment. This medication can increase potassium levels; hence, blood potassium levels should be regularly monitored when taken with potassium supplements or medications containing potassium. Patients with diminished kidney function should have their kidney function and electrolyte levels routinely checked before and after taking this medication. This medication can interact with other antihypertensive drugs and specific medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur when driving or operating dangerous machinery, so caution should be exercised. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension or heart-related issues may occur; therefore, adherence to the prescribed dosage is crucial, and immediate contact with healthcare institutions is necessary in the case of an overdose.
