Mucolytic and expectorant treatment of acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medicine helps dissolve mucus and expel phlegm in acute and chronic respiratory diseases. Therefore, it is effective when respiratory mucus becomes excessively thick or accumulates in the body leading to severe coughing. It dilutes mucus, facilitating smoother breathing and contributing to the alleviation of cough and improvement of respiratory symptoms. It is primarily used in the treatment of bronchitis, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Adults: Administer 300 mg of erdosteine orally per dose, 2~3 times daily. When administered for acute respiratory tract conditions, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.
This medicine should not be used by patients who have allergic reactions to this medicine or its components. It should not be administered to patients with liver cirrhosis or certain enzyme deficiencies, as it may affect metabolism in the body. It is also safe to avoid using this drug for patients with peptic ulcers or severely impaired kidney and liver functions. Moreover, this medicine contains lactose, so it should not be administered to patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. Patients with mild or moderate liver impairment should be careful not to exceed 300 mg per day when using this medicine. Diabetic patients or those on a low-calorie diet should use the syrup formulation with special caution. Patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to the yellow No. 5 dye included in this medicine should also be administered cautiously. Overdose of this medicine may lead to sweating, dizziness, and flushing. Some patients may experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, cold symptoms, respiratory distress, taste disturbance, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Skin reactions such as urticaria, rash, and eczema may also occur. Additionally, various side effects such as fatigue, dyspepsia, palpitations, facial or generalized edema, and itching have been reported. Care should be taken when using this medicine in conjunction with expectorants, as it may hinder phlegm discharge due to cough relief, increasing the risk of bronchial infection. There is also a potential risk of bronchospasm, so extra caution is advised when taken together. Safety during pregnancy or lactation has not been sufficiently established, therefore it is advisable to avoid use if possible. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should refrain from taking this medicine.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
Consult a doctor or pharmacist if taking this medicine in conjunction with cough medicines.
