Treatment of respiratory (bronchitis, pneumonia) and urinary (cystitis, urethritis) infections
This drug is effective against various types of bacteria and is used for respiratory diseases such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is also effective for urinary tract infections such as cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis. It is utilized in the treatment of gynecological and sexually transmitted infections, including postpartum sepsis, pelvic inflammatory disease, chancroid, and gonorrhea. The drug is useful in the treatment of systemic infections like skin infections (boils, abscesses, soft tissue infections), wound infections, peritonitis, osteomyelitis, and sepsis. It can also be used to treat dental infections, thus widely used for various bacterial infections. This drug helps improve and treat various infection symptoms.
For adults and children aged 12 years or older or weighing over 40 kg: administer 250 mg/125 mg of amoxicillin/clavulanate orally three times a day every 8 hours. In cases of severe and respiratory infections, the dose can be increased to 500 mg/125 mg of amoxicillin/clavulanate. This drug is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin or cephalosporins. Especially in patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia, the risk of rash is high, and administration should be avoided. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice due to this drug or penicillin should be careful as the risk of recurrence exists. Patients with impaired liver function or moderate to severe renal impairment should be cautious as drug concentrations may increase. Patients who are allergic or have experienced bronchial asthma or skin rashes should also be careful. Patients should be aware that gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea may prevent the drug from being well absorbed. While taking this drug, gastrointestinal adverse reactions such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting may occur, and in severe cases, serious side effects like pseudomembranous colitis may develop. Symptoms of liver dysfunction may also occasionally occur, so especially in the elderly or those taking it for a prolonged duration, regular liver function tests are recommended. Skin rashes, itching, and in severe cases, serious skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, so if such symptoms arise, the drug should be discontinued immediately. Abnormalities such as leukopenia or thrombocytopenia may occur in blood tests, so patients should consult a doctor if they experience unusual symptoms. Central nervous system disturbances may rarely include headaches, dizziness, or seizures, and patients with renal impairment need to be more cautious. This drug can interact with other medications, so patients should consult their doctor or pharmacist especially when taking anticoagulants, certain antibiotics, or anti-inflammatories. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this drug, and it is advisable to avoid use during the first three months of pregnancy. Special caution is needed for children and the elderly, as the elderly may experience side effects more easily due to decreased bodily functions. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances, electrolyte imbalance, and in severe cases, seizures or shock can occur, thus immediate notification to medical personnel is required. This drug should be stored in a dry place below 25 degrees Celsius, and if any adverse reactions occur during its use, immediate consultation with a doctor should be sought.
