How to take

Adult dose

For cefaclur hydrate, an oral dose of 250 mg (antibacterial potency) should be taken every 8 hours. In cases of severe infections (e.g. pneumonia) and infections with low susceptibility, the dose may be doubled. For acute gonococcal urethritis, this drug is administered in a single dose of 3 g with 1 g probenecid.

Child dose

Precautions

This medication is effective at killing bacteria by binding to specific proteins and disrupting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. This medication should not be administered to patients who have previously experienced a severe allergic reaction or shock from this drug. Additionally, it is prudent to avoid this medication in patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or to cephalosporin class antibiotics. Patients with a history of allergy to penicillin or those who easily exhibit allergic symptoms such as asthma, rashes, or hives should use this medication cautiously. Patients with severely impaired renal function, those who have difficulty swallowing, elderly patients, and those in poor general health should be monitored closely during administration due to a potential risk of vitamin K deficiency. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis, should also use this drug carefully. During the use of this medication, there is a rare potential for severe allergic reactions, skin rashes, blood abnormalities, liver function abnormalities, renal function decline, gastrointestinal issues, and central nervous system symptoms to occur, and if symptoms arise, immediate notification of medical professionals is required. If a severe allergic reaction occurs, administration should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be sought. This medication should be used for the minimal necessary duration determined by susceptibility testing to prevent the development of resistant bacteria, and excessive use should be avoided. Like other antibiotics, infections caused by bacteria resistant to this drug may occur, so it is essential to choose appropriate therapies if symptoms worsen. This medication can interact with certain drugs, so caution should be exercised when used with probenecid, nephrotoxic drugs, diuretics, anticoagulants, oral contraceptives, and bacteriostatic antibiotics. The use of this medication in pregnant women or those who might become pregnant should be made cautiously, and lactating women should also use this medication with caution as it is excreted in small amounts in breast milk. Safety in neonates less than 1 month old has not been established, so use is not recommended. Elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more readily due to diminished bodily functions, and there is a risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency, so dosage and intervals should be adjusted, and careful monitoring is required. While taking this medication, false positive results may occur in some urine tests, so caution is needed in interpreting test results.
