This medication is used in certain adult patients who are required to take clopidogrel and aspirin together. It is primarily applicable to patients with acute coronary syndrome, namely those experiencing unstable angina or non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, who have undergone or are scheduled for coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting. It helps improve outcomes related to cardiovascular events such as death, myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular accidents, and ischemic symptoms in these patients. Additionally, it is used in patients with atrial fibrillation who have one or more vascular risk factors and in whom vitamin K antagonist treatment is not appropriate and the risk of bleeding is low, to reduce the risk of stroke and atherothrombosis. In summary, this drug is effective in improving cardiovascular symptoms and reducing the risk of thrombus formation in patients with acute coronary syndrome and at high-risk atrial fibrillation.

Precautions

This medication helps prevent blood clotting, which may prolong bleeding times. Therefore, if bleeding is severe or does not stop, the physician must be notified immediately. Before any surgery or starting new medications, patients must inform healthcare providers that they are taking this drug. Moreover, due to certain genetic factors, the effectiveness of this drug may be reduced; thus, consultation with a healthcare provider is recommended if genetic impairment is suspected. Co-administration with certain medications, especially those affecting the CYP2C19 enzyme, may increase the risk of bleeding and should be avoided. Individuals who consume large amounts of alcohol daily may have a higher risk of gastrointestinal bleeding while on this medication and must consult a doctor or pharmacist. This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity, bleeding disorders, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, pregnancy late-term, or breastfeeding. Patients at risk of gastrointestinal bleeding or with bleeding tendencies, as well as those with blood disorders, should use this drug cautiously and adhere to discontinuation periods before surgery. It is particularly not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years old, as safety and efficacy have not been established. During treatment, symptoms of bleeding and gastrointestinal issues should be monitored closely, and if any abnormal signs arise, healthcare providers must be notified immediately. Caution is necessary when taking this medication alongside other drugs that may increase bleeding risk. In the early and mid-pregnancy stages, use should only occur if the benefits outweigh the risks, while it should not be used in the later stages of pregnancy. Although this drug does not affect driving or machine operation capabilities, physical condition should be observed carefully due to bleeding risk. Overdose may increase the risk of bleeding, and there is no specific antidote; thus, emergency measures such as platelet transfusion may be necessary in case of severe bleeding. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, kept at room temperature, and not transferred to other containers.
