This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to quinolone antibiotics. Rarely, symptoms of shock such as nausea, cold extremities, and difficulty breathing may occur, and if these symptoms arise, use should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment sought. Hypersensitivity reactions may include cardiovascular collapse, loss of consciousness, angioedema, airway obstruction, difficulty breathing, rash, urticaria, itching, eyelid swelling, skin redness, and conjunctival congestion; therefore, use should be discontinued if these symptoms develop. Various eye-related side effects may occur, including temporary burning sensation, irritation, discomfort, pain, redness, itching, conjunctivitis, keratitis, periorbital swelling, foreign body sensation, blurred vision, tearing, dryness, and dizziness. There is a very rare risk of serious corneal disorders or severe skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome; thus, use should be discontinued immediately if these symptoms occur. Hearing impairments or irritative symptoms may arise. To prevent the emergence of resistant strains, this medication should only be used for the minimum duration necessary based on susceptibility tests, and long-term use should be avoided. Long-term use may lead to excessive proliferation of fungi or non-susceptible bacteria; therefore, it should not be used long-term, and alternative treatments should be considered in the case of superinfection. For the treatment of trachoma, the standard duration is 8 weeks, and continued use thereafter should be approached with caution. During treatment, wearing soft contact lenses should be avoided. There is insufficient evidence regarding the safety of this medication during pregnancy, and it should only be used when the benefit outweighs the risk for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. During breastfeeding, either breastfeeding should be discontinued or the use of this medication should be stopped. Safety and efficacy in infants under 1 year have not been established, and it should not be used. This medication is for ocular application only, and care should be taken to avoid direct contact of the container tip with the eye. To prevent contamination, co-use should be avoided as much as possible. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, protected from direct sunlight, and kept in a cool, dry place. To maintain quality, do not transfer to another container.
