Precautions

This medication should be used with caution as sleep disorders may be symptoms of physical or mental illnesses; a thorough evaluation of the patient's condition is required before use. If insomnia does not improve after taking the medication for 7-10 days, other psychiatric or internal diseases may be present, and consultation with a specialist is necessary. During the use of this medication, behaviors such as sleep driving may occur, therefore it is advised to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. Taking this medication with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may increase these risks; therefore, it should never be taken together. Patients with depression may experience worsening of suicidal thoughts or behaviors while on this medication, so they should report any new behavioral changes to their doctor immediately. This medication has a central nervous system depressant effect, which may cause drowsiness or decreased concentration, so caution is necessary. When used in combination with other drugs that have central nervous system depressant effects, such as alcohol or antihistamines, sedation may be intensified, thus caution is advised. Patients who are allergic to this medication or its components, those taking certain antidepressants (MAO inhibitors), untreated glaucoma, or those with severe urinary retention should not use this medication. During pregnancy, there may be risks to the fetus, so it should be taken very cautiously only when necessary and under the judgment of a doctor. For breastfeeding mothers, this medication may pass into breast milk and affect the baby, so the decision to breastfeed should be discussed with a physician. The safety and efficacy in children have not been established, thus its use is not recommended. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to this medication, so it is advisable to start with a lower dose and closely monitor their condition. Patients with impaired liver function may have increased drug concentration, indicating the need to start at a lower dose and monitor carefully. Patients with sleep apnea should be especially cautious as this medication may worsen respiratory function; severe cases should avoid use. This medication has low abuse potential and is less likely to cause dependence, but any abnormal behaviors or drug-seeking behavior during treatment should be discussed with a physician. Overdose may lead to severe toxicity, requiring immediate emergency treatment at a medical facility, and self-treatment should be avoided.
